Abstract

REZ M. JONGCO, Holy Infant College, Tacloban City. ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS AS RELATED TO LEADERSHIP PRACTICES OF PRINCIPALS AND MORALE OF TEACHERS IN ORAS EAST DISTRICT, DIVISION OF EASTERN SAMAR Adviser: DR. LILIA P. ADRALES This descriptive-correlative study determined the relationships among the principal leadership practices, teacher morale, and students’ performance in Oras District, Division of Eastern Samar during the school year 2015-2016 as basis for an intervention plan. It tested the hypotheses that there is no significant relationship between: 1) principal leadership practices and teacher morale; 2) teacher morale and students’ performance, and 3) principal leadership and students’ performance. It was conducted in Oras District which involved 20 school heads from all the 20 schools and 105 teachers. The data were gathered using the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) by Kouzes and Posner (2012), and Purdue Teacher Opinionnaire by Bentley and Rempel (1980) in Houchard (2005). The study found out that the NAT achievement was “closely approximating mastery” (average = 86.25); the school principal leadership practices in terms of LPI was very high; generally the teachers’ morale was high; there is a weak relationship between principal leadership practices and teacher morale; teacher morale has no significant relationship with students’ performance in NAT; and only “encouraging the heart” was the principal leadership practices which was positively and significantly associated with students’ performance. From these results, an intervention action plan was proposed.
